Living in Australia we unfortunately miss out on snowy weather in December and the traditional white Christmas. Although we have our own Christmas traditions travelling for a white Christmas is an opportunity not to be missed! Often Europe is the destination of choice to experience Christmas at its full potential in another hemisphere.
If you have the chance this Christmas, changing your surroundings for the Christmas spirit can become a treasured memory to be shared for years to come.
Our top Christmas destinations include:
- Finland: Experience Christmas where it all began; travelling to Finland needs to be at the top of the lists for families or the children at heart as it is the origin of Santa. Finland has a lot of Christmas celebrations and you may also be fortunate in seeing the Northern Lights.
- Germany: Germany is well known for their Christmas Markets held over the Christmas season. The Augsburg Christmas Market is one of the oldest and well known Christmas Markets as it has been held for over 500 years.
- Italy: For a very traditional approach to Christmas Rome is the place to go. Some of the main highlights from a Roman Christmas include the Pope delivering a Christmas Eve midnight mass, the massive Christmas tree in St. Peter’s Square and a life-sized Nativity scene in front of the basilica. There are also many other events around the city.
- Wherever it is that you decide to go make sure you investigate the traditions and events in the destination of your choice for the best Christmas experience.
